Gamers website outs gay characters

Is Final Fantasy XII's hero Vaan, pictured above, a friend of Dorothy?

Website gamesradar.com certainly think so, and to be honest, we agree.

The concept of gay characters is nothing new - I mean check out the butch 'tache on Mario - but for a long time gays were under-represented.

Despite the fact that many gamers are gay. The question is  - what is the point of "outing" characters?

Is this yet another bunch of childish "str8" boys laughing at gay people?

Here is what they said:

"Zelda's fairy obsessed Tingle is gay. No question. But how about Gears of War's gruff and brutish Marcus Fenix or God of War's one man massacre machine, Kratos?," asks gamesradar.com

"Here are five popular gaming heroes that we think show signs of covert - and not so covert - campness. Could they be gay...?"

[Hello reality]

I'm not homophobic and I have a couple gay friends, so don't blast my response as being anti gay. You can be offended all you want about the fact some gaming website would make a stupid article, but if you honestly believe that, then you're living in a bubble dissociated from reality. The fact this article was made reflects on the readership of such articles and that means those people reading it will get a chuckle from that kind of crude humor. They didn't make this out of the blue. They made it becaue they thought it was funny and because there are many many many more like them who will think it is funny. If you want to get all offended, look at their vast audience and not at them for providing it. If you don't believe me, spend some time in the Barrens in World of Warcraft or join a large guild with lots of low leveled characters. You'll see that they like this and they don't give a shit that you're offended that they like it.

Honestly these kinds of decisions should only be handled by gay people; I mean, we're the ones with gaydar, right? I don't find it offensive or derogatory, I just think they're obsessed with homosexuality. With the aforesaid being said, I think that site is being handled with the skill and fine tuned precision of gaydar, even if the writers themselves don't know about it, yet ;)
