Emmy nominated Samantha Who? star Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with breast cancer, her publicist Ame Van Idin confirmed in a statement on Saturday. "Christina
Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting
from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not
life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of
her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be
issued at this time." Emmy and Golden Globe nominated for ABC’s run-away hit Samantha Who?,
about a young business woman who comes out of an eight-day coma with
complete amnesia about her past, 36-year-old Applegate won an Emmy in
2003 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for playing Jennifer Anniston’s character Rachel Green’s self-involved younger sister Amy on Friends. Samantha Who? marks Applegate’s full-time return to television since her iconic role as the flaky Kelly Bundy on the Fox’s Married with Children, which ran for 11 seasons beginning in 1988. A
spokeswoman for Lee National Denim Day, a national fundraiser to
benefit breast cancer programmes, Applegate took up the cause after her
mother, a breast cancer survivor, beat the disease. The actress is slated to appear at Stand Up To Cancer, a one-hour television special to be aired on ABC, CBS and NBC on Sept. 5 to raise funds for cancer research. Applegate faced tragedy earlier this summer when her boyfriend Lee Grivas died of a drug overdose in early July.
