People Magazine is enjoying the victory of being the first publication in the U.S. to feature photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newest family additions.
The magazine published a collection of photos of the Pitt-Jolie family, including the first photos of the 3 week old twins, in this week’s issue.
People, along with the British tabloid Hello! magazine, reportedly paid $14 million for the privilege of being the first to publish photos of twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon.
After months of speculation and a slew of false media reports, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt became new parents once again on Saturday, July 12.
Jolie gave birth to twins at the La Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France.
The couple named the baby girl Vivienne Marcheline, the middle name for Jolie's late mother Marcheline Bertrand, and the baby boy Knox Leon.
Knox Lean weighed just over 5 pounds at birth, with baby girl Vivienne Marcheline weighing in right at 5 pounds.
The twins arrived shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, French time, and were born 15 minutes apart.
The couple, often nicknamed Brangelina, has one other biological couple together, Shiloh, 2, and three adopted children, Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3.
The newest Jolie-Pitt son has already received the nickname “Fort Knox” in the press because of the stupendous price paid for the first photos of the babies.
A cover photo featuring the twins was featured on the People Magazine website on Sunday, with more photos published in the print publication released on Monday. British tabloid magazine Hello! published the photos in tandem with People in the UK.
The combined price of $14 million was paid for the photos by the two magazines, according to The Associated Press.
The money will reportedly be donated to a foundation created by Pitt and Jolie to help children around the world.
Although various media reports fueled a rumour that Jolie and Pitt resorted to fertility treatments to conceive the twins, the couple told People that the twins were not a result of in-vitro fertilisation.
“If they had been conceived through IVF, we would have been happy to discuss it,” Jolie told People.
“But we have been fortunate never to have had fertility problems.”
Jolie and Pitt, who have been together since 2005, came out publicly in support of equal gay marriage rights by stating in 2006 to Esquire magazine that they would not marry until "everyone else in this country who wants to be married is legally able."
